What is Christ Church here for?

The short answer: to know and show Jesus.

That’s basically it. Life is complicated, the Christian life is no exception to that, but when it comes down to it there are only a few things we’re put here to do. We’re here to know and show Jesus. The short answer: to know and show Jesus.

That’s basically it. Life is complicated, the Christian life is no exception to that, but when it comes down to it there are only a few things we’re put here to do. We’re here to know and show Jesus. That’s what glorifies God; that’s what makes us most fulfilled. Our purpose in life as a church is nice and simple.

Of course, saying that it’s nice and simple doesn’t prevent us from having a lot to say about it. Have a listen to this talk to think it through a bit more. And feel free to listen to the sermons in Ephesians from earlier this year (yes, all fifteen of them) to help think it through a lot more.

Here’s a quote from the sermon 'to know and show Jesus':

“What it comes down to in the day to day as an individual is this: When you get up in the morning and the sleep clears away and you come round and do those important things like remembering what day it is and what you need to do today and things like that, here are the questions you should ask yourself. What am I here for? I’m here to know and show Jesus. OK, so how am I going to know his truth today? How is today going to help me to know God better? How am I going to show his love today? How am I going to share his good news today? Look, if you’re asking yourself those questions first thing in the morning, then you’re starting the day well. Hopefully asking questions like that will drive you to pray and to feed on God’s word, and to care for your fellow Christians and others that you meet, and to actively try to bring the good news of Jesus to people who need to know him.”
