"We can also discredit God through hypocrisy. Through that all too common thing of being here in the gathering, looking the part, saying all the right things, singing our hearts out, while knowing full well that in some other area of our life there is some horrible sin and we’re not doing anything about it. We let it fester on. We know we’ll go back there into that sin at some point during the week and we’re comfortable with that. I was listening to a guy talking about doing ministry among men the other day and he said this, he said “we blokes have boxes in our brains. We put different bits of our lives into the different boxes and we don’t join them up. That’s why you hear of great Christians making terrible messes of their lives. Ministers having affairs, things like that. How can they do it? We ask. Easy. They just separate it out.” Hypocrisy is easy. That’s the frightening thing about it. If we love things and we love approval, we have all we need to be really accomplished hypocrites. And if God is not present among us, that doesn’t matter. But if he is, then we need to fear. We need to be frightened of our hypocrisy, because we fear God. Because we know he hates hypocrisy. And we want to please him, don’t we? Not do stuff that he hates."
